Omari Averette-Phillips’ research analyzes class consciousness through the intersection of race, gender, politics, and labor, focusing on Black engagement with labor organizations in the U.S. South during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Omari is one of the hosts of “New Books in African American Studies,” a podcast on the New Books Network, and is a former high school history teacher.
