Maia Illa is an alumni of the Chico State Social Work Program for both her BSW (2009) and MSW (2010). Her initial career focus was mental health treatment for teens and children and by extension their families. As a community mental health provider she became familiar with school and community-based service provision and thus began pursuing her School Social Work credential (PPSC-SSW), obtaining that in 2012. Since then she has worked as a school social worker, agency supervisor, private practice owner, acted as a school district consultant, managed the PPSC-SSW program at CSU, Sacramento, and helped to develop the PPSC-SSW program for Chico State.
Maia's teaching interests include Practice, Practicum, and Trauma and Grief. Their research interests include Student Success, Student Access, School Social Work, Post-partum Mental Health, Early Childhood Development, and Family Therapy.
