Renaissance Literature, Shakespeare, Animal Studies, and Ecocriticism
Erin K. Kelly is Assistant Professor of English at California State University, Chico. She received her Ph.D. in English from Ohio State University in 2013, her M.A. from the University of Virginia in 2007, and her A.B. from Harvard University in 2004. Her research interests include Renaissance literature, Shakespeare, Animal Studies, and Ecocriticism. Her current project, “My dere chylde take hede how Trystram doo you tell”: Hunting in English Literature, 1486-1603, focuses on the practice of the hunt in Tudor literature, expanding the chronological and generic focus of previous scholarly work. Many early modern readers would have understood the references to hunting language and procedures, and her work allows modern readers to read texts through this lens, registering the shifts in power and status that are the result of the use of this practice. Her work has been published in Early Modern Studies Journal and Reformation (forthcoming). She teaches courses on Shakespeare and on medieval and Renaissance literature.
