Troy Jollimore
Troy Jollimore has authored or edited four books of philosophy, as well as four books of poetry. His philosophical books include Love’s Vision (Princeton University Press, 2011) and On Loyalty (Routledge, 2012). In 2024 he edited The Virtue of Loyalty for Oxford University Press. He is currently writing a book tentatively titled The Shock of Love, which is also under contract for OUP.
Born in Liverpool, Nova Scotia, he was an undergraduate at the University of Kings College and Dalhousie University, before moving to the U.S., where he earned a Ph.D. in Philosophy at Princeton under the direction of Harry Frankfurt. Before coming to CSU Chico he taught at UC Davis and at Georgetown University.
His first collection of poetry, Tom Thomson in Purgatory, won the National Book Critics Circle award for poetry in 2006. His third, Syllabus of Errors, appeared on the New York Times' list of the best books of poetry published in 2015. His most recent collection is Earthly Delights, published in 2020.
In 2013 he was awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship in poetry. He has also received fellowships from the Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference and the Stanford Humanities Center in Palo Alto, California. His poetry has appeared in the Best American Poetry series (2020), and three of his essays have been listed as ‘notable’ essays in various editions of Best American Essays.
With Professor Robert Jones, he hosts a biweekly radio show on KZFR that focuses on philosophical and cultural topics, titled Philosophers on Culture. With Jones and Professor Peter S. Fosl he produces a podcast, No Podcast for Old Men, dedicated to examining philosophical dimensions of the films of Joel and Ethan Coen.
