Rhetoric, Composition, Chicana Rhetorics/Literatures, Cultural Rhetoric's and Technical Writing

I’m a Chicana born and raised on the border between Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua Mexico and El Paso, Texas. I spent a lot of my childhood crossing from Ciudad Juarez, El Paso, and Houston with my mother, stepfather, and two siblings until we finally settled in Chuco Town when I was in third grade. The border as the backdrop of my childhood was one of the most impactful sources of happiness, tension, and confusion. And even today, the border still follows and haunts me everywhere I roam.

I earned my BA in Psychology in 2004 and MA in English from the University of Texas at El Paso in 2007. I then earned my PhD in English with an emphasis on Cultural Rhetorics and Literatures of Color from Texas A&M University in 2012. Currently, I’m an Assistant Professor of Composition, Rhetoric & Chicanx Rhetoric in the English Department at California State University in Chico, where I teach courses in Chicanx Literature, Rhetoric & Writing, Environmental Rhetoric, and Technical Writing.

My current ongoing research is on the femicides of Mexican/Mestiza women on the US/Mexico border which will culminate into my first manuscript. Within my pedagogical research, I examine the ways we must decolonize the composition and technical writing classrooms using social justice and the zombie apocalypse as theoretical frameworks.
