Biography
Andrew D’Lugos, PhD is an Assistant Professor of Exercise Physiology at California State University, Chico. Dr. D’Lugos earned his PhD from Arizona State University, where he studied the impacts of aging and several pharmaceutical drugs on skeletal muscle physiology. As a postdoctoral fellow, Dr. D’Lugos utilized preclinical and clinical studies to investigate the underlying mechanisms of cancer-induced skeletal muscle pathology (cancer cachexia) and determine the efficacy of physical activity as an effective muscle-preserving therapy. At Chico State, Dr. D’Lugos’ research employs preclinical and clinical studies to improve our understanding of skeletal muscle physiology in response to stimuli such as exercise, medication (NSAID’s), nutrition (collagen), and disease (cancer).
Research Interests
Dr. D’Lugos’ lab aims to improve our understanding of skeletal muscle physiology in the context of challenging stimuli such as exercise, medication/nutrition, aging, and disease. The lab’s ultimate goal is to advance the development of strategies for improving skeletal muscle size, composition and function, and overall quality of life. To achieve this goal the lab employs a wide array of research techniques, ranging from applied measures of exercise and muscle physiology (i.e. exercise performance tests, isokinetic dynamometry, ultrasound imaging, etc.) to cellular and molecular measures of muscle biology (i.e. tissue microscopy, blood analytes, etc.).
