Roland Sharpe Flores

Roland Sharpe Flores is an Assistant Professor of Interior Architecture at California State University, Chico. He is passionate about helping student designers understand that the combination of theoretical knowledge and hands-on training gained through design education provides a distinctive way of seeing and engaging with the world. This philosophy is deeply rooted in his diverse professional and academic experiences.
Roland is a licensed architect in Vermont and holds a certificate from the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB). He earned his Bachelor of Architecture from Cornell University and his Master of Architecture from Yale University.
His professional background includes work with notable design firms in New York, Wisconsin, California, and China, where he has served in roles ranging from designer and project architect to project manager and campus planner. His academic career includes teaching appointments at North Dakota State University (NDSU), the National University of Singapore (NUS), the New York Institute of Technology (NYIT), and Yale University.
At CSU, Chico, Roland’s teaching focus is on design fundamentals, architectural representation and visual communication, and professional practice.
